Cash register w/ Inventory capabilities?

I’m opening a new small business soon and am looking at cash registers, etc. Due to the cost, I can’t afford a full POS system like HP’s rp5700 right now, so that’s off the table.

Does anyone know of a cash register that can also keep track of inventory levels? I’m thinking of a cash register (with barcode scanner) that either has inventory software built in, or has one available as an option.

I’m envisioning something simple, like inputting the inventory level for each sku by scanning the barcode then manually typing the quantity. Then having the cash register change the inventory level each time a barcode is scanned. I figure the inventory info would be uploaded from the cash register to a PC for printout, etc instead of the cash register actually printing reports.

Does anyone know if something like that exists?
