Blackberry Curve 8520, barcode help please….?

Question by Rachel: Blackberry Curve 8520, barcode help please….?
Hey all,

So a good friend of mine just just got his Blackberry phone today, and he tested it all out, and it was perfectly fine. But then he tried the barcode scanner, and it scans, but then it displays a message,
‘This item you selected could not be displayed.’
Any reasons why that may be showing?? And how to fix it??

I tried finding answers myself online, but had some trouble, and I’m hoping this method of asking works.

Thank you if you answer! Much appreciated! :)

Mobile RFID GEN2 Reading with Mobile Grid on Android

This is a quick demonstration of using a GEN2 Bluetooth RFID reader and the Grid-in-Hand™ Mobile Grid app running on a Nexus One Android phone to capture RFID tag data and send it via the Internet as an Excel spreadsheet file. This same Mobile Grid process can be used with other RFID readers and barcode scanners available from Serialio.com. Turn on the RFID reader by pressing the power button. The RFID reader will be in Bluetooth discoverable mode, use the Menu – Connect option to connect the RFID reader. Once connected pick the type of GEN2 tags you will read. TID is Tag ID, and EPC is Electronic Product Code. Then pick the format you want the data to be recorded in the grid. You can use HEX or ASCII. For this demonstration we have setup the EPC information on several tags to reflect the tag type used and we will scan each of these tags into the grid. Tags can be read two ways, by pressing a button to read each tag, or in constant read mode. First we will read using the press-to-read mode. When you want to read multiple tags quickly, consider using the constant read mode. Enable constant read mode, and set the time filter to prevent duplicated tag reads then read all the tags of interest. Once you have the desired tags captured, tap Menu – Upload Grid and your grid will be sent immediately when the network is available. For more Mobile RFID Solutions, contact serialio.com. almost all barcode readers act as a keyboard device.

when you scan, a string of characters will be entered as if you typed on the keyboard.

Capture this information in a text box and you can process it however you want.

If you steal an item (for example, a shirt) and keep the tag on, can you return it for money?

Question by lexi: If you steal an item (for example, a shirt) and keep the tag on, can you return it for money?
THIS IS NOT FOR MY OWN USE! I’m doing a science project on barcode scanners and how they work, I DO NOT STEAL CLOTHES!! Basically, I would like to know if someone steals an item from a store (like american eagle) and then asks to return it at another store (with the tag still on) if they scan the barcode will it show up as stolen or would they get away?

Best answer:

Answer by cedorris
The barcode is simply stores an identifying number for the store’s inventory management system to read.

The barcode is not unique to the that particular piece of inventory but rather that category of item.

For example: All shirts of the same design, color, and size will have the same barcode. However that barcode will not be able to tell the POS (point of sale) system anything about how the item was obtained or if it was ever even sold.

That said. Don’t steal. You will get caught.

How do I scan my library card’s barcode to print it in the same proportion?

Question by kidfrom1990: How do I scan my library card’s barcode to print it in the same proportion?
I want to do this because I don’t like carrying around my library card, it could get lost and etc.

I have a scanner by the way, but every time i scan it’s too large.

Best answer:

Answer by TSW
Your scanning at a higher dpi so the printer prints at that.Print and 100 %
Scan at the same DPI the your printer is set at.
Most likely 300 dpi. check your printer setting to find out. match the printer settings with your scanner settings.

Top Seo Liverpool Reports on New Smartphone Malware Attacking Unsuspecting Users

Top Seo Liverpool Reports on New Smartphone Malware Attacking Unsuspecting Users

An example of a QR code. This can be printed and used in anyway the mind allows.

(PRWEB UK) 22 October 2011

Smartphone users are facing a new threat today reports Top Seo Liverpool and according to news security analysts at Kapersky who say they have discovered the very first malware from QR codes, the malware could soon be costing you a fortune without your permission.

QR stands for quick response and is a code growing in popularity across the globe with the US, UK, Japan and Germany being amongst the biggest adopters. Users use a QR code scanner app on their smartphone and the code will take them to a web address. “The rate of usage is growing fast due to the barcode’s ability to hold large amounts of data and ability to integrate into marketing media” says Top Seo Liverpool, it helps to serve as a gateway for offline promotions onto digital sources.

As with any new technology however, there are those who would exploit potential users of the technology for their own gains and the QR code it seems is no different. Kapersky has recently reported the first case of a malicious QR code in Russia that sent users who scanned it to a website that automatically downloaded an app called “JimmRussia”.

The app then sent SMS messages to a premium rate telephone number in Russia and charged the unsuspecting mobile phone users a hefty price each time for the privilege.

Denis Maslennikov of Kaspersky who first discovered the malware said, “Yes, you scan a QR code with the help of your smartphone and it redirects you to a URL with a malicious file (APK or JAR). Such QR codes exist and are gaining in popularity.” Top Seo Liverpool have created an infographic with data on what countries are adopting the technology the most, who use them and why they are starting to get more attention.

It’s a development that could potentially harm the progress of the QR code, especially if end users feel put off by something many still don’t yet understand. Not knowing what is hidden within the strange code until it is scanned is something Tim Armstrong , a malware researcher at the company who first discovered the problem says we shouldn’t worry too much “If it’s a game and it’s requesting SMS, then you know something’s wrong,” he says. Siciliano, who is a security analyst at Mcafee suggests that brand names could pave the way for using the technology as the codes can’t be tampered with once rendered.

Amongst brands already using qr codes are Ford, Kellogg’s, Addidas, Starbucks and Calvin Klein. The question many are asking is will QR codes reach a critical point of usability before fears of viruses and malware damage user confidence, before they fully understand how the codes work.

Top Seo Liverpool perform SEO in Liverpool for a multitude of clients and have over 100 page 1 rankings this year. Visit their website to learn more about how they can help your business gain its own attention through the internet and social media.

New Features Released For Eventfinder Pro 2.0

New Features Released For Eventfinder Pro 2.0

Eventfinder chief executive, Michael Turner

Auckland, New Zealand (PRWEB) October 27, 2011

Eventfinder Pro 2.0 is the industry facing application that enables event promoters and organizers to list their event and have it distributed for free. They can set-up and manage their own online ticket sales direct to consumers for simple single-day, single-price events through to complex, multi-day festivals with tiered pricing.

Eventfinder Pro won Best User Experience at the 2011 New Zealand Internet Awards.

“Ticketing systems don’t usually win user experience awards because they are notoriously difficult to understand and hard to use” says Michael Turner, Eventfinder’s chief executive.

“We’re proud to be recognized by our peers for helping transform an industry worth billions of dollars by making online ticketing accessible with world-class interface design. We get rave reviews from our clients for making ticketing easy and giving them the features they’ve been screaming for.”

The re-designed interface includes an HTML5 offline validation feature, which enables event owners to electronically validate tickets at the door using a laptop and an over-the-counter USB barcode scanner, even without an Internet connection present.

Promoters now have the ability to market discounts and special offers to consumers who have purchased tickets to previous shows and events.

Eventfinder Pro enables promoters, venues and artists to sell tickets online without giving up control over customer relationships, providing completely transparent financial reporting, and removing the industry practice of charging exorbitant transaction fees, delivery or convenience charges to end consumers.

It is available to all event promoters, venues, festivals, bands and arts organizations within Eventfinder Australia and Eventfinder New Zealand. The company is expected to launch in the United States early in 2012.

About Eventfinder

Eventfinder is a globally focused event promotion and ticketing platform, and is the dominant provider of event information in Australia and New Zealand. Founded in 2006, eventfinder.co.nz is a Top 25 website (Nielsen) and the exclusive supplier of syndicated event content to media websites such as Yahoo!, MSN, NZ Herald and Fairfax, with a further 100+ syndication arrangements with other media and print publications.
