New iPhone App “Scandit” Makes Comparison Shopping Social and Integrates Superior Barcode Scanner — Free Download Available Now for Holiday Shopping
(PRWEB) October 21, 2010
Launching today in the iPhone App Store, Scandit is a free social shopping application that empowers consumers to shop smarter and share their shopping experiences with their friends via Facebook®, Twitter and e-mail. With its next-generation barcode scanner, seamless social network integration and comprehensive product data, Scandit lets consumers easily scan product barcodes, compare prices, read reviews and solicit feedback from their friends.
Scandit not only scans faster and more accurately than competing technologies, it also successfully scans barcodes that are sideways, upside-down, curved, and even those that are scratched or blurry. This technical advantage–along with social shopping features and extensive product data–sets Scandit apart from similar mobile applications.
“The idea for Scandit arose out of personal dissatisfaction with existing barcode scanning apps,” says Samuel Mueller, CEO and cofounder of Mirasense, the Swiss company behind Scandit. “So we set out to create the world’s most advanced comparison shopping app: one that makes barcode scanning more convenient, offers great product data and makes it easy to share product-related information with friends. Today we’re launching Scandit for the iPhone in the US and our goal is to empower consumers across the globe by making it available on all mobile platforms in the future.”
“On mobile phones, image-based barcode recognition is challenging because of blur, distortion and inexpensive camera components,” says Christian Floerkemeier, CTO and cofounder of Mirasense. “Our team of computer science PhDs managed to solve these issues and develop a barcode scanner that is very easy for the consumer to use; there’s no need to align barcodes precisely or wait for the autofocus–before you know it, you’ve Scandit.”
With the growing availability of smartphones with cameras, touchscreens and affordable data rates, the smartphone market is creating unprecendented opportunities for consumers to research, browse, order, and pay for consumer products right on their mobile device. Considering the market for mobile commerce is expected to grow to over $ 100 billion by 2015, barcode-based shopping apps will become a natural extension of both online and offline shopping channels.
Scandit currently supports iPhones 3G, 3GS and 4 (iOS 4.0 or higher) and is available for free in the US iPhone App Store. An Android version will be available soon, with versions for Symbian OS and Windows Phone 7 to follow. Download Scandit now for free or learn more on the Scandit website.

Automatically Track Mobile Powered Carts Throughout the Warehouse & Shop Floor
Automatically Track Mobile Powered Carts Throughout the Warehouse & Shop Floor
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) December 5, 2008
Barcoding Inc., the nationally recognized leader in data-capture solutions, has developed a new solution that enables warehouse and retail managers to track the location of their mobile powered carts through the warehouse and shop floor. The technology can pinpoint the location of a mobile cart to within three feet by utilizing a company’s existing wireless infrastructure.
How exactly does it work?
By assigning each powered cart its own individual IP address and location RFID tag, the location of the cart can be pinpointed in a company’s facility using the existing wireless infrastructure without any additional monthly airtime charges. The tag uses proprietary logarithms to measure the radio signals to the nanosecond and performs over 300 location calculations per second.
“When you have a cart that carries tens of thousands of dollars in computer equipment on it around the warehouse floor, being able to accurately and easily monitor where that cart is at all times is critical to keeping your operations running smoothly,” said Jay Steinmetz, CEO of Barcoding Inc. “This solution is designed for large warehouses and retail centers that have 20, 50, 100, or more carts roaming through the facility.”

Warehouse Management Solution with Sumlung MS30 barcode scanner/reader
·Overview of solution
Warehouse plays a vital role in the supply chain of business. If correct purchasing, inventory control and delivery can not be ensured, it will lead to the raise of management fees. Then the competitiveness of enterprises will be influenced for the difficulties in guaranteeing quality of service. Traditional storage management solutions which were simple and static can no longer guarantee the efficient use of corporate resources. Today’s warehouse operations and inventory control operations have become very complex and diversified so that it is time-consuming and labor-wasting by means of artificial memory and manual input. This may easily cause errors and huge losses to the enterprises.
·Role of barcode scanner in warehouse management
Usually, traditional warehouse system depends on a non-automated, paper-based documentation system to record and track goods, and carries out warehouse management by human-memory. For the entire storage area, the uncertainty of human factors results in low efficiency of labor, human waste of resources.
With the increase in the number and species of stocks, as well as a sharp growth in the frequency of storage, the traditional warehouse operations severely affected the regular operation efficiency. It is difficult for the existing warehouse management system which was managed by computers to meet the quick and accurate requirements of storage management with the intensification of commodity circulation.
Barcode technology can solve the problem that warehouse operation staffs need to input data automatically, at the same time, achieves accurate transmission of data to ensure the efficiency of warehouse operations, which is beneficial to make full use of the limited storage space.
·The characteristics and advantages of using Sumlung MS30 mobile barcode scanner to collect data
Compared with traditional ways of warehouse management
1) Characterized by the application of barcode technology to realize the automation of warehouse data collection.

2) The convergence of PDA, computers, GPRS, Bluetooth, scanning can help enterprises to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of scale.
·Benefit assessment
1) Applying barcodes technology in warehouse management realizes automation of data collection and gets rid of the processes to handwrite documents, as well as the steps taken to input data in the machinery-room. This greatly increases the work efficiency.
2) Solves the problems in inaccurate information of manual documents (such as transcription errors and type errors), so as to increase productivity, improve service quality, eliminate manual transaction processing, reduce inefficient work, eliminate additional stocks caused by inaccurate information and improve the utilization of funds.
3) Scanning data directly into the mobile phone can achieve real-time synchronous and real-time upload, and then manage warehouse timely and effectively.

Small Businesses Strive to Better Manage Assets, Driving Revenue Higher for Wasp Barcode Technologies
Plano, Texas (Vocus) July 30, 2009 -

The company, which creates technology solutions to help small businesses improve productivity, increase efficiency and reduce costs, saw sales of Wasp Inventory Control and Wasp MobileAsset products lead its revenue growth in the second quarter, as small businesses strove to better manage and improve their bottom lines.
Wasp’s second-quarter sales were up 26 percent over the first quarter, with June turning in the year’s best results thus far. Compared to the second quarter of last year, the company’s revenue was down less than 10 percent. Profitability for the recent quarter was strong.
“We believe that the worst of the economic decline is behind us,” said Tom O’Shea, general manager for Wasp. “Confidence has solidified, especially among our base of small business customers. With this confidence, business owners are investing in technology to improve their business operations.
“We expect the overall economic recovery will be extended, lasting throughout the remainder of 2009 and well into 2010,” O’Shea added. “However, we believe our technology solutions make an immediate impact on efficiency and profitability for our customers and are well-suited to help small business survive, and even prosper, through this prolonged recovery.”
Wasp Inventory Control and Wasp MobileAsset led the company’s revenue growth for the quarter. In addition, a new release of the WaspTime time and attendance system, which includes a new web interface, was well-received and showed good potential as the quarter ended.
Sales through Wasp’s channel partners were strong. Highlights included growth within the company’s WaspLink VARs (value-added resellers), as well as increased revenue from key direct marketers.
Wasp also enjoyed unexpectedly good sales for its new service offerings, which were launched in March. These include WaspProtect™, an extended warranty program that covers Wasp barcode scanners, barcode printers and portable data terminals. The app is most likely not compatible. I have the Ascend, and some apps lag hard or won’t work, due to the Ascend being a 2.1 Android.

Automatic Asset Location System uses Wi-Fi Access Point Triangulation
Automatic Asset Location System uses Wi-Fi Access Point Triangulation
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) March 28, 2005
Facilities managers need to constantly monitor the location of their expensive equipment, inventory and assets. Barcoding Inc. makes it possible to fully automate the process by placing a special Wi-Fi chip on each asset. Barcoding, a leading provider of supply chain technology to Fortune 500 manufacturing and logistics companies throughout North America, has created software that simplifies operations by automatically detecting the location of the assets relative to the location of wireless (Wi-Fi) access points within the facility. BarcodingÂs solution does not require any physical modification to the wireless infrastructure hardware.
Jay Steinmetz, President of Barcoding Inc. said, ÂOur system will streamline warehouse, manufacturing and hospital operations and increase supply chain accuracy. People who need to track large-scale assets can use our system, which does not require power on board the asset. They can constantly know what is located where. This is a major concern in a 14 floor hospital that has mobile equipment like X-Ray machinesÂ
BarcodingÂs system is designed to be economical. ÂOur system utilizes the customerÂs existing infrastructure of access points. For instance, if a client has Cisco Aeronet access points, all we need to do is upgrade their firmware. The clientÂs investment in network infrastructure is protected, Steinmetz said.
The Wi-Fi asset location system is different from RFID, because it does not require any special RFID equipment, and it works via common, inexpensive Wi-Fi access points. RFID only operates over a very limited distance, whereas Wi-Fi asset location operates in an entire facility, so long as there is a Wi-Fi network.
Using a mathematical calculation called triangulation, BarcodingÂs software uses a chip attached to each asset to measure the time it takes for radio signals to travel between several access points and the terminal. By measuring time, and dividing by the speed of light, it is possible to determine the precise distance from the terminal to the wireless networkÂs access points. The access points are fixed in place. By creating a map of their locations and the distances measured, each scanÂs location can be plotted with a high degree of confidence.
